"A Universe of Stories" Summer Reading Club a Success! 

Newton County Public Library’s summer reading experience “A Universe of Stories” came to a close recently, and the numbers were tallied to prove that 2019 Summer Readers were out of this world!  This is our best summer reading event in our history, and we thank our patrons for their participation!


By the numbers, we had:


  • Adults:                25 adults signed up 55 total book reviews

  • Teens:                 40 teens signed up 71 total book reviews

  • Preschoolers:     59 preschoolers signed up

  • Grades 1st-3rd:  79 signed up with 203 HOURS read

  • Grades 4th-6th:  65 signed up with 370 HOURS read

    • Total participants:     268

    • Total HOURS read:     573 Hours

    • Total book reviews:   126 reviews


Winners were chosen for a variety of engaging and timely final prizes!  We had a great summer of reading adventures, outdoor events, and engaging special programs!


All readers from ages 2 through 6th grade had the opportunity to win either a boys’ or girls’ bicycle given away for each age group at each location, all generously provided via a grant from the Jasper Newton Foundation.  Winners were:

The Newton County Fair Board generously donated a free amusement pass for Big Bounce Fun House for each Library – winners were:
